FG Says Extension of 2025 Budget Implementation Timeline Delayed Quarterly Reports
ABUJA, NIGERIA – MAY 18, 2026
The Federal Government has explained that the delay in publishing quarterly budget implementation reports for 2025 was caused by the extension of the budget implementation timeline to June 2026.
Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu, disclosed this while addressing concerns over the non-release of the reports within the expected timeframe.
Yakubu stated that the extension of the implementation period altered the reporting cycle and affected the timely publication of the documents. He added that the repeal and re-enactment of the 2025 Appropriation Act in December 2025 also contributed to the delay.
According to him, adjustments made to the budget framework following the re-enactment required additional administrative and technical processes before the reports could be finalized and released.
The Budget Office noted that quarterly budget implementation reports are essential for monitoring government spending, tracking revenue performance, and ensuring transparency in public finance management.
The Federal Government assured stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to conclude the process and make the reports available to the public as soon as possible.
The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the implementation of the 2025 budget and concerns over fiscal accountability and transparency in government expenditures.
