Nigeria Launches Tax Ombud Digital Platforms to Strengthen Fair Tax Administration
Abuja, Nigeria — May 19, 2026
The Federal Government has launched new digital platforms under the Tax Ombud initiative aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and fairness in Nigeria’s tax administration system.
The initiative, unveiled by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Finance, is designed to provide taxpayers with easier access to complaint resolution mechanisms, improve communication between tax authorities and citizens, and promote confidence in the nation’s tax processes.
Speaking during the launch, government officials described the platforms as a major step toward modernising tax administration and ensuring that taxpayers are treated fairly across all levels of government. The digital tools are expected to simplify the process of reporting grievances, tracking complaints and obtaining timely feedback from relevant authorities.
The Tax Ombud system is part of ongoing fiscal reforms being implemented by the administration to create a more transparent and efficient revenue framework while protecting taxpayers’ rights.a
Authorities noted that the platforms would also help reduce disputes, improve voluntary tax compliance and strengthen trust between the government and the private sector.
Officials emphasized that the initiative aligns with broader economic reform efforts targeted at boosting revenue generation without placing unnecessary burdens on citizens and businesses.
The government encouraged taxpayers, businesses and stakeholders to make use of the new digital channels to report issues relating to tax administration and seek resolution through lawful and transparent processes.
The launch was supported by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Federal Ministry of Finance and key stakeholders involved in Nigeria’s ongoing tax reform agenda, including the Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele.
