Abuja, Nigeria — May 18, 2026
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has announced that former President Goodluck Jonathan will be screened as its sole presidential aspirant on Tuesday, ahead of its forthcoming primaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the faction confirmed that the screening of all presidential hopefuls will take place at 10am, with Jonathan emerging as the only contender expected to undergo the process.
The development effectively positions Jonathan as the lone aspirant within the Turaki-led bloc as it moves closer to selecting its flag bearer for the next general election cycle.
Goodluck Jonathan, who previously served as Nigeria’s head of state from 2010 to 2015, remains a significant figure within the party and national politics.
The faction is led by Kabiru Turaki, who has been coordinating internal party processes ahead of the primaries.
The broader Peoples Democratic Party has continued to face internal divisions, with parallel structures emerging in some states and blocs as the party prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
The screening exercise is expected to play a key role in finalising the faction’s presidential candidate as political activities intensify within the party.
