Dr. Kana Calls for Stronger Continental Collaboration on Digital Public Infrastructure for Economic Development

Dr. Aminu Maida Kana has called for stronger collaboration among African nations in the development and deployment of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a catalyst for economic growth, financial inclusion and sustainable development across the continent.
Speaking at a regional stakeholders’ forum on digital transformation in Abuja, Dr. Kana emphasized the need for African countries to work together in building interoperable digital systems that would enhance governance, expand access to public services and stimulate innovation-driven economies.
He noted that Digital Public Infrastructure, which includes digital identity systems, payment platforms and data exchange frameworks, has become essential for accelerating economic activities and improving service delivery in both the public and private sectors.
According to him, stronger continental partnerships would help African nations bridge the digital divide, reduce operational costs and create opportunities for millions of underserved citizens, especially in rural communities.
Dr. Kana stressed that collaboration among governments, regulatory institutions, technology providers and development partners would be critical in ensuring secure, inclusive and resilient digital ecosystems across Africa.
He further highlighted the importance of policy harmonization, investment in digital infrastructure and capacity building to enable countries maximize the benefits of emerging technologies and digital innovation.
The digital expert also urged African leaders to prioritize regional integration initiatives that support seamless cross-border digital transactions and connectivity, describing such efforts as key drivers of economic competitiveness in the global digital economy.
Participants at the forum commended the growing efforts toward digital transformation across the continent and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships that would advance inclusive economic development through technology.
