PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS PROFESSOR SEGUN AINA AS NEW JAMB REGISTRAR

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Professor Aina’s appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening educational institutions through innovation, professionalism, and digital transformation.
According to the statement, Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is a renowned academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector institutional reform.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Professor Aina currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His career with JAMB began during his National Youth Service, where he gained practical experience in admissions management and data-driven institutional processes.
The Presidency noted that his background in technology, policy, and systems optimisation has positioned him as a leading figure in educational and digital reform initiatives across Nigeria.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has advised federal and state governments on digital transition, operational reform, and institutional system design. At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also worked as a consultant to major examination bodies, including NECO and NABTEB, providing expertise in ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new JAMB Registrar would leverage his vast experience and technical expertise to consolidate and expand upon the achievements recorded under the leadership of Professor Oloyede.
