EDO ELECTION: Authorities Apprehend Political Thugs and Seize Firearms During Overnight Operations

As voters head to the polls in Edo State today, the Nigeria Police Force has intensified its crackdown on electoral violence, successfully arresting two political thugs and seizing illegal firearms during overnight operations. The arrests come at a critical time as the state braces for a high-stakes election.

The two suspects, Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, a 41-year-old member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo Quarters, Igara Akoko, were apprehended in connection with an alleged plot to disrupt the election process. Force Public Relations Officer Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the arrests, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb electoral violence in Edo State.”

Authorities are ramping up security measures throughout the state, deploying additional personnel and monitoring hotspots where violence is most likely to occur. These actions are part of a broader effort to ensure that today’s election proceeds peacefully and without disruption from criminal elements or political thugs.

As polling stations open, law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to protecting voters and ensuring a secure environment. They have also issued strong warnings to anyone intending to carry out illegal activities, stressing that violators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The arrests mark a key moment in the fight against electoral violence in Edo, as the state remains on high alert to prevent any incidents that could undermine the integrity of the election.
