SGF George Akume speaks at government-citizen engagement forum in Kaduna on reviving Kaduna Textile.

FG to Revive Kaduna Textile Industry in New Push for Economic Growth

Kaduna, Nigeria – July 29, 2025

In a significant move aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to rejuvenate the once-thriving Kaduna Textile Industry, with the goal of boosting industrialization and driving inclusive economic growth.

The announcement was made by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), during a two-day interactive session held in Kaduna focused on government-citizen engagement. The event brought together all northern appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking at the session on Tuesday, Akume emphasized that President Tinubu remains unwavering in his commitment to national development across all regions.

“Tinubu is doing a lot in about eight different areas to ensure Nigeria experiences holistic development in all spheres of endeavor,” Akume said.

Highlighting industrialization as a key pillar of the current administration’s economic strategy, Akume noted that the Federal Government is taking concrete steps to diversify the economy and restore once-booming industrial hubs such as Kaduna Textile.

“We are looking at those days of Kaduna Textile and many other industrialized areas in the North. We intend to revisit those good old days of Kaduna Textile to further boost and solidify the economy of the country via industrialization,” he stated.

Kaduna Textile Limited was once a symbol of Nigeria’s post-independence industrial strength, employing thousands and contributing significantly to the national economy before its decline due to mismanagement, poor policy implementation, and inadequate infrastructure.

According to Akume, President Tinubu’s government sees the revival of legacy industries like Kaduna Textile as central to rebuilding Nigeria’s industrial base, creating jobs, and promoting regional development.

“These and many more will be achieved by the administration of Tinubu, who after two years and two months in office has achieved so much,” he added.

Observers believe the successful revival of Kaduna Textile could have a ripple effect on related sectors, particularly agriculture and trade, as cotton production, dyeing, and garment manufacturing would receive a much-needed boost.

The SGF’s remarks align with Tinubu’s broader economic vision, which includes infrastructure renewal, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, and a renewed focus on value-added manufacturing to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imports.

Details on the specific funding, timeline, and framework for the Kaduna Textile revival project are expected to be unveiled in subsequent government briefings.
