INEC May Register Eight New Political Parties in Nigeria
Abuja, Thursday, October 31, 2025
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may soon register an additional eight political parties, potentially increasing the total number of recognized political parties in Nigeria to twenty-seven.
At a meeting held on Thursday in Abuja, the electoral management body announced that eight out of the fourteen pre-qualified political associations had successfully completed the upload of all required information and documentation.
According to INEC, the successful associations are:
• All Democratic Alliance (ADA)
• Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA)
• Abundance Social Party (ASP)
• African Alliance Party (AAP)
• Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA)
• Green Future Party (GFP)
• National Democratic Party (NDP)
• Peoples Freedom Party (PFP)
Speaking on the development, INEC National Commissioner for Information, Sam Olumekan, stated that the next stage of the registration process would involve a detailed assessment and verification of the information and documents submitted by each of the eight associations.
He emphasized that only associations that meet all constitutional and legal requirements will be formally registered as political parties in Nigeria.
If approved, the addition of these eight parties will further broaden Nigeria’s political landscape, giving voters and candidates more platforms to participate in the country’s democratic process.
