GOV. DAPO ABIODUN CON PROPOSES ₦1.668TRN 2026 BUDGET OF SUSTAINABLE LEGACY

Today marked a pivotal milestone in our existence as a State, democratic government, and patriotic services to the good people of Ogun State as the Honourable Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Hon Otunba OlaDapo AbdulRahman Okubadejo joined his visionary and pragmatic political Leader and Boss, His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON, formally presented a ₦1.668 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, representing a 63 percent rise from the 2025 allocation. Governor Dapo Abiodun laid the Appropriation Bill, tagged Budget of Sustainable Legacy, before the State House of Assembly in Abeokuta.

The proposed 2026 budget of sustainable legacy by Ogun State Government allocates ₦624.76 billion to recurrent expenditure and ₦1.044 trillion to capital projects. Key spending areas include personnel costs (₦167.92 billion), overheads (₦291.06 billion), public debt charges (₦99.98 billion), and capital investments totalling over ₦1 trillion.

The Governor disclosed on revenue projections, an expected ₦509.88 billion in internally generated revenue, with OGIRS contributing ₦250 billion. Federal allocations are projected at ₦554.81 billion, while capital receipts, including loans and grants, stand at ₦518.90 billion. Infrastructure takes the largest share of sectoral allocation with ₦526.15 billion, followed by education (₦275.40 billion) and health (₦210.59 billion). Other priority areas include housing, agriculture, social protection, and public order. The Ogun State government focus remains on completing priority projects under the ISEYA pillars and driving long-term growth.

His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON, said the 2026 budget focuses on revenue-driven projects aligned with Ogun’s development plan and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted progress in the 2025 budget, citing 60 percent expenditure performance and improved economic indicators. He also highlighted major achievements such as the Gateway International Airport’s commercial operations, ongoing inland dry port projects, and over 1,500km of roads built and rehabilitated statewide.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said they reviewed the implementation of the 2025 Budget of Hope and Prosperity, where the state government achieved 60 percent of pro-rata expenditure and 53 percent of pro-rata revenue performance as of September 30. Over the years, Ogun State’s economy has grown to an estimated ₦17 trillion GDP, and our IGR has risen from ₦52 billion in 2020 to nearly ₦192 billion in 2024, with a projection of ₦250 billion in 2025. He highlighted transformative projects such as the fully certified Gateway International Airport, ongoing work on the Kajola and Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Ports, and the over 1,500km of roads constructed or rehabilitated across the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun thanked the Speaker and members of the House for their collaboration, their passage of critical bills, and their diligent oversight functions. He urged the Assembly to give the budget accelerated consideration as we prepare for major events in 2026, including the Gateway Afrobeat Drum Festival and the 50th Anniversary celebration of our dear state. Finally, He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth groups, labour unions, religious bodies, security agencies, and civil servants for their continued support in sustaining peace, progress, and stability across Ogun State.
