LAWMA INTENSIFIES SURVEILLANCE AND ENFORCEMENT AGAINST ILLEGAL WASTE ACTIVITIES IN LAGOS

Lagos, Nigeria, March 23, 2026

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has stepped up monitoring and enforcement operations across key locations in Lagos as part of its zero-tolerance approach to illegal waste activities.

On March 19, 2026, LAWMA operatives conducted targeted enforcement against illegal cart pushers in Gbagada, Bariga, and Iwaya, areas notorious for indiscriminate waste collection and dumping at unauthorized sites, which undermines efforts to maintain a cleaner city.

In a related operation on March 21, 2026, an illegal wheelbarrow pusher was apprehended during a waste source investigation at a previously eradicated black spot under the Mile 12 flyover bridge, opposite the BRT terminal.

These ongoing enforcement activities highlight LAWMA’s commitment to sustaining a cleaner, healthier Lagos. Residents are encouraged to patronize only assigned PSP operators and refrain from engaging illegal waste handlers.

The Authority reiterated that collective compliance is key to ensuring public health, environmental sustainability, and a cleaner city for all.
