POLICE CONFIRM ABDUCTION OF STUDENTS OF NASARAWA STATE UNIVERSITY

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of students at the Engineering campus of the Nasarawa State University in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.


In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the command disclosed that it received a distress call reporting that unidentified armed men stormed a students’ lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo, Gudi, in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the statement, the gunmen abducted several students and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The police confirmed that six of the victims have so far been identified as students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of the university. Another victim was said to be a visitor who was staying with one of the students at the time of the incident.


Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He subsequently redeployed the Area Commander of Akwanga to coordinate rescue operations and security activities in the area pending the safe return of the victims.
The command further disclosed that a combined security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilante groups, and other tactical units had been deployed to track down the abductors and rescue the victims unharmed.


The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice and urged members of the public to remain calm.
The command also appealed to residents to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in the rescue operation, urging anyone with credible intelligence to report to the nearest police station or any security agency.
