The Federal Government has announced a lineup of events to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, starting with a World Press Conference on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The celebration will feature religious and civic activities leading up to Independence Day on October 1, 2024, a public holiday for the entire nation.

According to the schedule, the anniversary celebration will begin with a Juma’at Service on Friday, September 27, 2024, at mosques across the country. This will be followed by a Church Service on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at designated Christian worship centers nationwide.
The highlight of the festivities will be the Presidential Broadcast and the 64th Independence Day Parade, both taking place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. The Presidential Broadcast will likely outline key national issues, policy directions, and the President’s vision for the country’s future as it marks another year of independence.
Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora will be marking the anniversary with various patriotic activities, while government offices, businesses, and schools will observe the public holiday on October 1. This day holds historical significance as Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, marking a key milestone in the nation’s history.
The government is urging citizens to participate in the events and celebrate the progress made since independence, while reflecting on the challenges ahead in building a prosperous and united Nigeria.
More details of the celebrations and broadcast schedules will be made available in the coming days.
