Kano APC Meets as Ganduje Makes First Major Political Appearance After Exit as Party National Chairman

September 26, 2025 | Kano, Nigeria

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, September 26, 2025, convened a crucial closed-door meeting aimed at recalibrating the party’s political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections. The high-level gathering, held at an undisclosed location in Kano, marks the first major political appearance of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje since stepping down as APC National Chairman three months ago.

Party stalwarts, including the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin; Senator Kawu Sumaila; members of the House of Representatives; and a host of former and serving political officeholders, were in attendance. The meeting, described by insiders as “strategic and forward-looking,” is expected to culminate in a communique outlining the party’s roadmap towards reclaiming and strengthening its political base in Kano and beyond.

Although the agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, political observers believe the gathering signals an effort to consolidate internal party unity, evaluate the APC’s performance in the state, and identify fresh strategies to confront the rising influence of opposition forces.
Ganduje’s appearance has fueled speculation about his continued influence within the party, especially in Kano, where he remains a formidable political force despite his recent resignation from the national stage.
A party official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the meeting as “a house-cleaning exercise necessary to realign interests and prepare for the serious work ahead.”

As of the time of filing this report, the meeting was still ongoing, with a formal communique expected shortly after its conclusion. Political analysts will be watching closely for signals from Kano, a key battleground state with significant electoral weight in Nigerian politics.
