NATIONAL UNION OF ELECTRICITY EMPLOYEES TCN CHAPTER SUSPENDS STRIKE
Abuja, Nigeria – September 27, 2025
The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), operating under the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has officially suspended its industrial action following the intervention of the Federal Government.
The resolution was reached during an emergency high-level meeting held in Abuja, convened by the Minister of Power. Present at the meeting were key stakeholders, including officials from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the management of TCN, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), representatives from NUEE, and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC).
After hours of intense deliberation, all parties agreed on a series of resolutions that paved the way for a temporary truce. Chief among these was the unions’ acceptance of the Minister’s appeal to revisit the report of a standing committee, with a commitment to review it between October 6 and 7, 2025. The reviewed recommendations are expected to begin implementation later in the same month.
As part of the agreement, TCN and NISO are to jointly assess the financial implications of the committee’s recommendations and develop a comprehensive implementation plan. This plan will be submitted to both the Minister of Power and union leaders for further action.
Additionally, both the unions and the TCN management have committed to reconvene for further discussions aimed at resolving any outstanding issues. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has also been tasked with fast-tracking its ongoing tariff review process to facilitate the smooth execution of the agreed resolutions.
The suspension of the strike comes as a relief to Nigerians who had begun to experience disruptions in electricity supply nationwide. With this development, stakeholders are optimistic about a more stable power sector and improved industrial relations going forward.
