FG Assures Steady Supply of Petroleum Products
Abuja, Nigeria | September 29, 2025
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a steady and uninterrupted supply of refined petroleum products across the country, following a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee of the Domestic Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Local Currency Initiative.
The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, was convened to address emerging concerns in the downstream petroleum sector, including recent reports about a temporary suspension of the Naira-for-crude oil arrangement with the Dangote Refinery.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the reported issues with the arrangement have now been “resolved amicably.” The Naira-for-crude initiative, designed to support domestic refining and ease pressure on foreign exchange demand, will continue as planned.
Also present at the meeting were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji, who also chairs the Technical Committee; and key representatives from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd., Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Afreximbank, and Dangote Refinery.
The committee also deliberated on issues raised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), particularly concerning operations at the Dangote Refinery. The Federal Government has pledged to address all outstanding disputes between the union and the refinery “in good faith and with a sense of urgency.”
In a joint communique, the committee assured Nigerians that there would be no disruption in the availability or distribution of petroleum products nationwide. It further emphasized the administration’s focus on energy security, consumer protection, and price stability in the domestic market.
“The Federal Government remains unwavering in its goal to strengthen the nation’s energy sector through strategic partnerships, regulatory clarity, and proactive dispute resolution,” the statement concluded.
With this reassurance, stakeholders and consumers are expected to maintain confidence in the stability of fuel supply across Nigeria.
