COMMANDER CORPS OF SIGNALS PAYS OPERATIONAL ASSESSMENT VISIT TO HQ OPHK…Urges Commanders to Protect Critical Communication Infrastructures for Enhanced Operational EffectivenessMaiduguri, Borno State

As part of efforts to bolster communication capabilities in ongoing counter-insurgency operations, the Commander Corps of Signals (CCS), Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, on Saturday, 27 September 2025, undertook an operational assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri, Borno State. The visit aligns with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, aimed at strengthening communication systems across Nigerian Army operations.
During his address, Major General Ugbo emphasized the critical role of reliable communication infrastructure in operational success. He noted that his visit was intended to assess the installation, maintenance, and protection of communication assets across the theatre, interface with field commanders and technical stakeholders, and evaluate the implementation of Signals projects supporting OPHK.
He urged commanders to prioritize the maintenance and protection of Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, emphasizing that these systems are essential to effective command, control, and coordination within the theatre of operations. He reiterated the unwavering support of the Corps of Signals in providing robust and innovative communication solutions to sustain operational efficiency in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the North East.
Responding to the visit, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, commended the Corps of Signals for its foresight and continuous innovation. Describing communication as “the backbone of successful operations,” he pledged to ensure that all critical communication infrastructure under OPHK is safeguarded. He expressed confidence that the assessment visit would significantly contribute to improving OPHK’s operational capabilities.
Earlier in the visit, Brigadier General Nelson Okafor, Commander of 57 Signal Brigade, presented an overview of the Brigade’s contributions to OPHK. He highlighted substantial progress in the deployment of communication systems, ICT enablers, and signal support projects, noting that these have considerably enhanced the theatre’s command and control functions.

• Group photographs with commanders and principal staff officers of OPHK
The visit underlines the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining technologically driven operations and sustaining mission-critical communication systems in support of national security efforts in the North East.
