Yobe State Government Takes Over 176 Housing Estate, Commends President TinubuDamaturu, Yobe State

In a significant development aimed at addressing the housing shortage in Yobe State, the Yobe State Government has officially taken over 176 housing units from the Federal Government at a cost exceeding ₦2 billion. This strategic acquisition marks a major milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to reduce the housing deficit and improve access to affordable and decent homes for its citizens.
The official handover ceremony took place at the Maisandari Housing Estate in Damaturu, the state capital. The handover was conducted by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development’s representative, Mathius Iliya Kastula, to Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON. Governor Buni was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmad Buba.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Buni praised the President’s decisive approval for the estate’s transfer to Yobe State. He emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to supporting states in meeting vital developmental challenges. “This project is not just about buildings, but about restoring dignity to our people by giving them access to affordable and decent shelter,” Governor Buni said.
Both the Minister of Housing and Urban Development and Yobe State’s Controller of Housing, Muazu Abubakar, commended Governor Buni for his vision in acquiring the property to benefit the people of Yobe. They described the purchase as a clear indication of the administration’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of its citizens, especially civil servants and low-income earners.
Commissioner Ahmad Buba explained that of the 208 housing units originally constructed by the Federal Government, Yobe State successfully purchased 176 units. Efforts are ongoing to complete and rehabilitate the remaining 32 uncompleted units to meet acceptable housing standards before allocation. He highlighted that this acquisition will not only reduce the housing deficit but also relieve urban pressure, stabilize rent costs, generate jobs through rehabilitation and maintenance, and boost economic growth in neighboring communities.
The official takeover of the Maisandari Housing Estate is hailed as a pivotal achievement in Governor Buni’s administration, reinforcing its commitment to delivering safe, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions to the people of Yobe State.
