Maiduguri, Borno State | November 1, 2025

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Friday received a delegation from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), led by its Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The visit was part of a comprehensive roundtable discussion aimed at strengthening collaboration between the state government and the REA toward achieving a sustained and reliable energy supply across Borno State. Discussions also centered on leveraging renewable energy initiatives to accelerate rural electrification and support the state’s ongoing plans to establish an independent energy facility.

Governor Zulum commended the REA for its proactive approach in supporting state-level efforts to expand access to electricity, particularly in underserved rural communities recovering from the impact of insurgency. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to energy sustainability as a critical component of Borno’s long-term economic recovery and development strategy.
In his remarks, the REA Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, expressed appreciation for the state government’s efforts in creating an enabling environment for energy projects. He assured that the Agency will continue to partner with Borno State in developing renewable and off-grid energy solutions tailored to the unique needs of local communities.

During the visit, the REA delegation also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of energy requirements at selected state-owned institutions and agencies. The assessment, according to the REA, will help guide future project implementation and ensure efficient energy delivery across the state.

Governor Zulum emphasized that achieving energy independence is one of the administration’s top priorities, adding that the partnership with the REA aligns with the state’s vision to power economic growth, enhance security operations, and improve living conditions in both urban and rural areas of Borno State.
