Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan Wins Landslide Election Victory

Dodoma, Tanzania — November 1, 2025

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has secured a resounding victory in the country’s general election, according to official results announced on Saturday.
The National Electoral Commission declared that President Hassan won 97.66 percent of the vote, a commanding lead over her opponents. The results were broadcast live on state television, which also confirmed that a quick swearing-in ceremony would take place later on Saturday.

Hassan, who first assumed office in 2021 following the sudden death of her predecessor, John Magufuli, has now firmly consolidated her leadership through the ballot box.
Analysts say the landslide win underscores her efforts to strengthen her authority within the ruling party and across national institutions, especially after facing early resistance from factions loyal to the late Magufuli and segments of the military.

“This victory not only confirms her political dominance but also her ability to navigate Tanzania’s complex power structures,” one political observer noted.
During her tenure, President Hassan has sought to project a more open and diplomatic image for Tanzania, pursuing reforms in governance, international relations, and the economy.
Her emphatic victory, observers say, signals a continuation of her agenda to modernize Tanzania’s political and economic systems while maintaining stability after years of internal division.

The official inauguration, expected to take place in Dodoma, will mark the beginning of her first full term as Tanzania’s elected president — and a defining chapter in the nation’s democratic journey.
