Gov. Ododo to Commission 80 Revitalized Primary Healthcare Centres Across Kogi State
Lokoja, Kogi State | Friday, November 8, 2025
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, is set to commission 80 revitalized Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state in the first phase of the state’s Primary Healthcare Modernization Project, which commenced in April 2024.
The commissioning ceremony will take place at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Old Market, Lokoja, where Governor Ododo will perform the official flag-off, marking the start of a state-wide exercise aimed at transforming primary healthcare delivery in Kogi State.
According to the Governor, the initiative seeks to make functional, well-equipped, and accessible healthcare services available to residents across all local government areas.
“Our people deserve a healthcare system that works. These revitalized PHCs will bring medical services closer to communities and reduce the burden on secondary health facilities,” Governor Ododo stated during an earlier inspection of some of the completed centres.
He emphasized that the revitalization project goes beyond physical renovation, focusing instead on restoring public confidence in healthcare facilities through the provision of modern medical equipment, qualified personnel, and sufficient drug supplies.
“This effort is part of a broader agenda to strengthen primary healthcare delivery as the foundation of a functional health system. We are not just opening facilities; we are building healthier communities,” he added.
Governor Ododo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and support for state-level healthcare reforms, noting that the President’s focus on primary healthcare and human capital development has inspired Kogi State’s ongoing reforms in the health sector.
It will be recalled that in April 2024, Governor Ododo launched a comprehensive plan to revitalize over 200 PHCs across the state. The current commissioning represents the first completion phase, with 80 of those centres ready for operation in Idah, Igalamela, Kabba, Lokoja, Mopamuro, Okene, Ogori-Magongo, Ijumu, Yagba East, Adavi, and several other local government areas.
The modernization project underscores the Ododo administration’s commitment to accessible, affordable, and efficient healthcare services, particularly for rural communities, as part of its broader human development and social welfare agenda.
