NISO Announces Total Power Outage in Maiduguri from November 6th to 9th, 2025

Maiduguri, Borno State, November 7, 2025

Residents of Maiduguri and surrounding communities in Borno State are currently experiencing a total power outage following a scheduled maintenance exercise at the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant.

In a statement issued by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), the agency announced that the outage, which began on Thursday, November 6, will last until Sunday, November 9, 2025. The temporary shutdown, according to NISO, is necessary to carry out critical maintenance work aimed at ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of the generation facility that supplies electricity to Maiduguri and its environs.

NISO explained that the maintenance activity forms part of its routine operational requirements designed to enhance efficiency and prevent unplanned system failures that could result in prolonged power interruptions in the future.

“This scheduled maintenance is a routine but vital procedure to guarantee the continued stability and effectiveness of the Maiduguri power supply infrastructure,” the statement read in part. “We appeal for the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all electricity consumers in Maiduguri and neighboring areas during this period.”

The agency assured residents that electricity supply would be restored immediately upon the completion of the maintenance work on Sunday.
Meanwhile, businesses and households in Maiduguri have been urged to make alternative arrangements for power during the period of the outage, while authorities continue to monitor the progress of the maintenance exercise.

The Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant, which was commissioned to provide stable electricity to the city and nearby communities after years of grid disruptions caused by insurgent activities, remains a vital source of power for the region.
