Lokoja, Kogi State – November 10, 2025
The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Muyi Aina, in collaboration with the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commissioned 80 revitalised Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state and handed over essential medical equipment and commodities to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The official commissioning ceremony took place at the Government House, Lokoja, and marked a major milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to quality, affordable, and reliable primary healthcare services nationwide.

The revitalised PHC facilities were upgraded under the World Bank-supported IMPACT Project, executed in partnership with the NPHCDA, to improve service delivery at the grassroots level and bring essential healthcare closer to rural and underserved communities.

Following the commissioning, Dr. Aina formally handed over a large consignment of medical equipment and essential drugs to the Kogi State Government for onward distribution to PHC facilities across the state. He said the initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening state health systems and improving health outcomes for Nigerians.

As part of the day’s engagements, Dr. Aina and Governor Ododo also commissioned and inspected the newly completed Model Primary Health Care Centre at Old Market Road, Lokoja. Dr. Aina described the facility as a model of patient-centered care and a benchmark for quality primary healthcare delivery across the country.

The team later visited the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, where the NPHCDA Executive Director presented Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) equipment for use in the delivery room, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and maternity side laboratory.

In his remarks, Dr. Aina commended Governor Ododo for his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to improving healthcare access and quality in Kogi State. He also lauded the dedication and professionalism of the state’s health workers, emphasizing the importance of effective collaboration between federal and state agencies.
“The revitalisation of these 80 PHCs and the provision of modern equipment reflect our collective resolve to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, promote maternal and child health, and ensure that no Nigerian is left behind,” Dr. Aina said.

He reaffirmed the NPHCDA’s commitment to continued partnership with the Kogi State Government, expressing confidence that sustained investment in the health sector will contribute significantly to improved health outcomes and the attainment of national development goals.

Governor Ododo, in his response, thanked the Federal Government and the NPHCDA for their support, pledging that his administration would continue to prioritise healthcare infrastructure and service delivery for the well-being of all Kogi citizens.
