SUCCESS IN PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS DEPENDS LARGELY ON LOGISTICS – COMMANDANT NACOLM
Lagos, Friday, 7 November 2025
The Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba, has emphasized that success in Peace Support Operations (PSO) depends largely on effective planning and deployment of logistics. He made this known during a one-week intensive training organized by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in collaboration with NACOLM, on Operational Level Training in Logistics for ECOWAS PSO.
The training, held at the Ogomudia Auditorium, NACOLM Moloney Campus, Lagos, from 3–7 November 2025, was designed to enhance the capacity of logistics officers in the planning, deployment, and management of logistics in ECOWAS Peace Support Operations. Participants were drawn from the Armed Forces, Police, and civilian institutions across ECOWAS member states.
Speaking at the event, Major General Adetoba underscored the importance of logistics as a decisive factor in achieving operational success during peace missions. He stressed the need for the implementation of effective conflict management frameworks and security mechanisms among member states to strengthen logistics capabilities and ensure smooth mission execution within the ECOWAS sub-region.
The Commandant also revealed that the College had expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of two additional courses — the Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (SLSOC) and the Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course — complementing its existing Logistics Management and Logistics Staff Courses. He added that, in line with its expansion drive, the College now operates two campuses in Lagos.
Major General Adetoba expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM, for approving the collaboration between NACOLM and the ECOWAS Commission, which made the training possible. He also commended the Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security at ECOWAS for partnering with the College to ensure the success of the program, noting that the event reflected years of sustained effort and commitment towards the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NACOLM and ECOWAS.
In his remarks, the Acting Head of Peacekeeping Operations Division, ECOWAS, Dr. Sani Adamu, welcomed participants and commended Major General Adetoba for his visionary leadership and dedication. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training, highlighting that the program would strengthen their capacity to respond to the evolving peace and security challenges within the ECOWAS sub-region. Dr. Adamu also lauded the expertise of the resource persons who shared their wealth of experience during the sessions.
Also speaking, the Head of Civilian Component, ECOWAS, Mr. Bekaye Coulibaly, reiterated the need for regional collaboration to address political and security challenges, which he identified as major threats to human security, socio-economic growth, and cultural development in West Africa. He cited the proactive interventions of ECOWAS in The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau as examples of the organization’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability. Mr. Coulibaly added that strengthening the capacity of logisticians from member states at the operational level would enhance future success in ECOWAS-led Peace Support Operations.
The training concluded with an interactive session and group exercises focused on real-time logistics planning scenarios, aimed at reinforcing participants’ problem-solving and decision-making skills in operational environments.
