Federal Ministry of Health Sets to Host Three Major Health Events in Abuja
Abuja, Nigeria – November 11, 2025
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has announced that all arrangements have been concluded for the commencement of three major health sector events — the 2025 Joint Annual Review (JAR) Conference, the 66th National Council on Health (NCH), and the launch of the second cohort of the National Health Fellows (NHF) programme.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, stated that the events mark significant milestones in the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s health system and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
According to Prof. Pate, the Joint Annual Review Conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to assess the performance of the health sector over the past year, identify existing challenges, and develop practical strategies to improve health outcomes nationwide.
He further explained that the 66th National Council on Health (NCH)—the highest policy-making body on health matters in Nigeria—will bring together Commissioners for Health from all 36 states, heads of health agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders. The Council will deliberate on emerging health issues, share best practices, and adopt resolutions to guide the sector’s policy direction.
In addition, the launch of the second cohort of the National Health Fellows (NHF) programme will focus on nurturing a new generation of young health professionals equipped with leadership, analytical, and policy implementation skills. The initiative, Prof. Pate noted, is a key component of the Ministry’s broader human resource development strategy aimed at building a resilient and innovative health workforce.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality, equitable, and accessible healthcare services to all Nigerians, emphasizing that these upcoming events will play a crucial role in advancing the objectives of the Renewed Hope Health Agenda.
The conferences and launch are scheduled to take place in Abuja, with participants expected from across the federation as well as international health development partners.
