2025 Joint Annual Review Conference of Nigeria’s Health Sector Opens in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria | Wednesday, 12 November 2025

The 2025 Joint Annual Review (JAR) Conference of Nigeria’s health sector has officially opened in Abuja, marking the second edition of the high-level policy and accountability forum dedicated to strengthening health outcomes across the nation.

This year’s conference, themed “All Hands. One Mission. Bringing Nigeria’s Health Sector to Light,” builds on the foundation set during the inaugural JAR and reaffirms the nation’s commitment to collaborative, transparent, and evidence-driven health governance. The event serves as a vital accountability platform for tracking progress, identifying gaps, and charting a unified course toward improved health and well-being for all Nigerians.

Driving Accountability and Collaboration
The 2025 JAR Conference will evaluate Nigeria’s health sector performance across key indicators, reviewing achievements, challenges, and innovations in policy implementation. A major highlight of this year’s event is the signing of an updated Health Sector Compact, which introduces a new addendum to incorporate Local Government Areas (LGAs), the private sector, traditional and religious leaders, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) into the accountability framework.

This expanded inclusion underscores Nigeria’s collective drive toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that health reforms are locally owned, broadly supported, and sustainably implemented.
Spotlight on Critical Health Priorities
Beyond plenary and technical sessions, the 2025 JAR features five “Spotlight Sessions” focused on key health priorities designed to inspire innovation and actionable policy outcomes. These sessions include:
MAMII – Crashing Maternal Mortality
Tackling Corruption in the Health Sector
Navigating ODA Funding Shifts for Health, featuring a case study from the ATM Technical Working Group

Advancing Local Manufacturing of Life Sciences Products and Market-Shaping Initiatives
Health Sector Portfolio Expenditure Review
These thematic discussions will provide practical insights and strategies to enhance health financing, governance, and service delivery, while promoting accountability and sustainability across all levels of the health system.

A Unified Effort for a Healthier Nigeria
With participation from federal and state health officials, development partners, civil society, and the private sector, the 2025 JAR Conference reaffirms the shared vision of “One Health, One Nation.” Stakeholders will use this platform to strengthen system resilience, mobilize resources, and accelerate progress toward a robust, equitable, and inclusive healthcare system.
As Nigeria continues its journey toward Universal Health Coverage, the Joint Annual Review remains a cornerstone of health sector accountability and reform, ensuring that every policy and investment translates into measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
