WAJIROKO, BORNO STATE — 16 NOVEMBER 2025
Troops of 25 Task Force Brigade conducting a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, were ambushed by terrorists while returning from a successful mission along the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
In a statement released by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonis Anele, the patrol team—personally led by the Commander, 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba—comprised soldiers of the brigade as well as members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). According to the statement, the troops responded with overwhelming force, fighting gallantly through the ambush and compelling the attackers to withdraw in disarray.
Despite the successful fighting withdrawal, the Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF members paid the supreme price during the encounter. Lieutenant Colonel Anele noted that the Army High Command deeply commiserates with the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen heroes, acknowledging their sacrifice in the ongoing efforts to secure Nigeria from insurgent threats.
The statement also addressed circulating misinformation claiming that the Brigade Commander had been abducted during the attack. The Army dismissed the report as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create panic, stressing that Brigadier General Uba led his men back to base safely after the engagement.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, extended his commendation to the troops for their resilience and bravery. He praised them for operating with unwavering commitment in one of the nation’s most dangerous conflict zones, reaffirming the Army’s determination to completely win the war against terrorism.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to continue aggressive operations across the northeast, ensuring the safety of communities and weakening terrorist capabilities across the region.
