FCTA DEBUNKS CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS; DIRECTS SUSPENSION OF DANLAMI HAYYO
Abuja, FCT | 25 November 2025
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has debunked reports alleging that all public schools in the FCT have been directed to shut down. The administration described the claim as false and misleading, assuring residents that the approved academic calendar remains unchanged.
This clarification follows the unauthorized circular that announced the closure of schools—an action that prompted the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to order the suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Danlami Hayyo.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister has further directed the Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, to take disciplinary action against the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in line with civil service rules, as she was responsible for issuing the misleading circular.
The administration emphasized that there has been no directive for early closure of schools, urging parents, students, and school authorities to disregard the circulating report. It reaffirmed that all academic activities will continue as scheduled.
Reassuring residents—particularly students—of adequate safety, the FCTA announced that the Minister has ordered the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security initiatives across the Federal Capital Territory to maintain peace and stability.
The FCTA reiterated its commitment to upholding clear communication and ensuring that all directives follow due process.
