INSECURITY: INTERIOR MINISTER AFFIRMS NIGERIA’S PREPAREDNESS TO CONFRONT CHALLENGES

Abuja, Nigeria — November 28, 2025

Nigeria is strengthening its readiness to confront emerging security threats, according to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who emphasized the government’s commitment during an unscheduled assessment tour of key security and emergency facilities in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Minister paid surprise visits to the FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Fire Service station in Wuse, Abuja, where he evaluated ongoing projects and the operational state of both agencies.

Tunji-Ojo stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a clear mandate to reposition all agencies under the ministry for effective, efficient, and citizen-focused service delivery. He noted that meeting present and future security challenges requires not only equipment and infrastructure, but also sustained personnel development.
Speaking during his inspection of the NSCDC FCT training ground, which is currently under construction, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work. He stressed that continuous training and capacity building remain critical components in combating insecurity nationwide.

However, his visit to the Federal Fire Service revealed gaps that require urgent attention. Tunji-Ojo expressed displeasure with the condition of the Wuse station, describing some of the observed deficiencies as unacceptable. He assured that the issues will be addressed immediately by the leadership of the Service.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s support for paramilitary agencies, the Minister urged officers and personnel to carry out their duties professionally, diligently, and with utmost respect for citizens’ rights. He emphasized that security and emergency services must embody the highest standards of discipline and public trust.

Tunji-Ojo concluded by stating that such unannounced assessments will continue nationwide, as the ministry seeks to ensure that Nigerians receive nothing short of excellent and responsive public service from all agencies under its supervision.
