The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26, 2025, as well as Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani. According to the statement, the announcement was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The Minister called on Nigerians to use the festive period to reflect on the core values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ.

He further urged citizens, irrespective of faith, ethnicity, or background, to take advantage of the season to pray for peace, improved security, and national progress.

Dr Tunji-Ojo also advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security conscious throughout the celebrations, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining peace and order across the country.
He concluded by wishing all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
