Gamboru Market Explosion Linked to Suspected Boko Haram Suicide Bomber, Says NA

Maiduguri, Borno State — December 25, 2025

The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, has attributed the explosion that occurred at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri on Wednesday evening, December 24, 2025, to a suspected Boko Haram terrorist suicide bomber.

According to the Nigerian Army, preliminary investigations revealed that the attacker detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at the busy market, killing himself and two civilians instantly at the scene.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, working in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, other sister security agencies, the Borno State Government, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), responded swiftly to the incident. The affected area was immediately secured and cordoned off to prevent further harm and ensure public safety.

Casualties from the explosion were promptly evacuated to the General Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention. A total of 32 civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the blast.
Sadly, two of the injured victims were later confirmed dead at the hospital, while two others remain in critical condition. Medical officials disclosed that the remaining injured persons are stable and are receiving appropriate treatment.

In the aftermath of the incident, troops and other security agencies have intensified surveillance and security measures within Maiduguri and its surrounding areas to forestall further attacks.
Members of the public have been advised to remain calm, vigilant, and security-conscious, particularly during the ongoing yuletide season.

The Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and reassured residents of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the North-East region.
