Former AGF Malami and Two Others to Be Remanded in Kuje

Abuja, January 2. 2026

The Federal High Court, Abuja Division, has adjourned to January 7, 2026, to rule on the bail application filed by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and two other defendants standing trial alongside him.

Malami and the two co-defendants are facing charges bordering on alleged money laundering and illicit possession of assets valued at over ₦8 billion. After hearing arguments from counsel to both parties, the trial judge adjourned the matter to Wednesday next week for a ruling on the bail application.

Pending the court’s decision, the defendants are to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Meanwhile, in a related matter before the same court, Justice Nwite granted bail to the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu. Adamu, alongside one Ayab Agro Products Company, is standing trial on charges of alleged conspiracy and laundering of ₦4.65 billion.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In granting bail, the court set stringent conditions, including a bail sum of ₦500 million with two sureties. The sureties are required to own landed property located in Gwarinpa, Maitama, or Asokoro districts of Abuja.

Justice Nwite ordered that the defendant remain in Kuje Correctional custody until the bail conditions are fully perfected.
The court further adjourned the case to January 23, 2026, for the continuation of trial.
