The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an official investigation into alleged misconduct arising from two high-profile quarter-final matches at the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, involving Cameroon vs. Morocco and Algeria vs. Nigeria.

Cairo, Egypt – January 12, 2026

In a statement released on Monday, CAF confirmed that it is in possession of official match reports as well as video footage suggesting possible misconduct by certain players and officials during the encounters. The governing body said the alleged incidents occurred during the quarter-final stage of the tournament and have now been formally referred to CAF’s Disciplinary Committee for a comprehensive review.
CAF noted that, following the conclusion of the investigation, appropriate sanctions will be imposed should any violations of its regulations be established.
In addition to the on-field matters, CAF revealed that it is also examining video evidence related to alleged inappropriate behaviour by some media representatives in the mixed zone after the matches. The organisation stressed that accreditation for its competitions comes with clear professional obligations that must be respected at all times.

Reiterating its position, CAF strongly condemned all forms of misconduct during its competitions, particularly any actions directed at match officials or tournament organisers. The Confederation emphasised that maintaining integrity, respect, and professionalism is central to its values.

“Any individual found to have acted below the professional and ethical standards expected at CAF tournaments will face decisive disciplinary action,” the statement concluded.
CAF said it would provide further updates once the Disciplinary Committee has completed its deliberations.
