Sanwo-Olu Mourns Late Oba Akran, Describes His Death as Significant Loss to Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the revered Oba of Badagry and Paramount Ruler of Badagry Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Akran, the Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, describing his death as a significant loss to Badagry, Lagos State, and the nation at large.
Oba Akran, who also served as the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, joined his ancestors at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of nearly 49 years of distinguished service to his people and the state.
In a condolence message, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the late monarch for his wisdom, steadfast leadership, and unwavering commitment to unity, cultural preservation, and development. He noted that as a first-class traditional ruler, Oba Akran played a pivotal role in fostering peace and stability in Badagry Kingdom while upholding its rich cultural heritage.
The governor further highlighted the monarch’s contributions to the promotion of Badagry as a major cultural and tourism hub, as well as his consistent advocacy for progress and development across the kingdom. According to Sanwo-Olu, Oba Akran’s reign was marked by selfless service and a deep sense of responsibility to both his people and the larger Lagos community.
Sanwo-Olu commiserated with the royal family, the people of Badagry Kingdom, and the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, urging them to take solace in the impactful life and enduring legacies of the late monarch. He encouraged the people to immortalise Oba Akran’s values and contributions for future generations.
The governor also prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the family and all those affected by the loss, noting that Oba Akran’s memory and achievements will continue to inspire the people of Badagry and Lagos State as a whole.
