New GOC 8 Division Visits Tidibale Community, Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Security
Tidibale, Isa LGA, Sokoto State – January 20, 2026
As part of his first official engagement, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, conducted an assessment visit to Tidibale Community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
During the visit, Major General Koughna reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the community. The GOC emphasized that his visit was part of an initial assessment following the safe return of Tidibale residents, who had previously been threatened by bandits.
A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, highlighted the Army’s commitment to protecting communities and restoring normalcy, enabling residents to resume their daily activities without fear.
Major General Koughna announced that troops have now been stationed in Tidibale to maintain a robust security presence and remain vigilant, ready to respond swiftly to any threats or emergencies. He assured that no part of the community would be left under the control of bandit groups.
The GOC further urged residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to security forces, emphasizing that collective vigilance is key to strengthening peace and security in the area.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of Tidibale Community, the traditional ruler, Alhaji Ibrahim, commended the GOC for his timely visit. He noted that the gesture has renewed the community’s confidence in the Nigerian Army’s efforts to secure the area, restore normalcy, and bring lasting peace and stability to the region.
Prior to the visit, Major General Koughna received a detailed operational briefing from the Commanding Officer, 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha, at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Isa. The briefing provided critical insights into the current security situation and ongoing operations in the area.
The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to protect lives and property, working closely with local communities to achieve enduring peace and security across the Northwest region.
