Abuja, January 26, 2026
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as a vital foundation for survival, healthy living, and environmental stewardship.
In a message to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Clean Energy, the First Lady emphasized that the global observance serves as a timely reminder of the urgent need to transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. She noted that such a shift is critical not only for economic growth but also for safeguarding the health of citizens and preserving the nation’s natural ecosystems.
According to her, the 2026 celebration, held under the theme “Clean Energy for People and Planet,” underscores a shared responsibility among individuals, communities, governments, and the private sector to work collectively toward environmental protection.
Senator Tinubu highlighted that access to clean and affordable energy remains central to improving quality of life, reducing environmental degradation, and combating the adverse effects of climate change. She encouraged Nigerians to adopt energy-efficient practices, support renewable energy initiatives, and make environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives.
The First Lady further stressed that protecting the environment is not an option but a necessity for the well-being of present and future generations. She called for sustained collaboration and innovation to build a greener, healthier, and more resilient planet for all.
The International Day of Clean Energy is observed annually to raise awareness about the importance of clean energy in achieving sustainable development and addressing global environmental challenges.
