Federal Ministry of Livestock Delivers Vaccine to Bayelsa State

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State | January 2026

As part of the Federal Government’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRESS) Project, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has delivered a consignment of livestock vaccines to the Bayelsa State Government.
Correspondent Ebinimi Zitimiyola reports that the vaccines form part of the nationwide vaccination exercise against Trans-Boundary Animal Diseases (TADs), an initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s animal health system, improving livestock productivity, and safeguarding food security across the country.
The vaccination exercise, being implemented under the 2026 nationwide Trans-Boundary Animal Diseases (TADs) programme, seeks to enhance breed quality, boost farmers’ incomes, and reduce conflicts often associated with livestock production by ensuring healthier and more resilient animal populations.

Speaking during the presentation, the Animal Husbandry Assistant and Legal Adviser of the L-PRESS Project, on behalf of the National Coordinator, formally handed over the vaccines to the Bayelsa State Government. The consignment includes 10,000 doses of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) vaccine, 50,000 doses of Newcastle disease vaccine, and 500 doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine.

The initiative, supported by the World Bank, is expected to significantly improve livestock health and productivity in the state, while contributing to national efforts to enhance food security, increase rural livelihoods, and promote peaceful coexistence among farming and pastoral communities.

The Bayelsa State Government has commended the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development for the intervention, assuring that the vaccines will be effectively deployed to reach livestock farmers across the state.
