Anti-graft War: EFCC, NCS in Enhanced Collaboration in Lagos
Lagos, Nigeria | January 28, 2026
The Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Adebayo Adeniyi, has called for enhanced collaboration between the EFCC and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as a critical strategy for combating economic and financial crimes in the country.
Adeniyi made the call on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the office of the Zonal Coordinator of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, Assistant Comptroller-General Mohammed Babandede, in Lagos. He described the NCS as a key stakeholder and a vital partner in the ongoing fight against economic and financial crimes.
According to him, sustained and strategic collaboration between both agencies is essential to dismantling criminal networks that undermine the growth and stability of Nigeria’s economy.
“The EFCC places high value on strategic partnerships with sister agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi said. “Through intelligence sharing and joint operations, we can more effectively tackle economic and financial crimes and safeguard Nigeria’s economic interests.
“We want you to continue supporting us in the best way you can through data analysis, information sharing, and watch-listing of suspects,” he added.
In his response, Assistant Comptroller-General Babandede commended the EFCC for its consistent efforts in ridding the country of economic and financial crimes. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to supporting the EFCC in the discharge of its mandate.
“The Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to working closely with the EFCC to curb smuggling, revenue leakages, and other forms of economic sabotage,” Babandede stated. “Our collaboration is essential to achieving a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.”
The visit underscores the resolve of both agencies to strengthen inter-agency cooperation as a means of effectively tackling corruption, financial crimes, and other threats to national economic security.
