MINISTRY OF DEFENCE ON SUPPORT FOR THE ARMY

In a move aimed at strengthening civil–military synergy and deepening institutional collaboration, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, , has paid a strategic working visit to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General .

The visit underscores the Ministry’s renewed commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Nigerian Army and reinforcing administrative efficiency within the defence architecture. Speaking during the engagement, the Permanent Secretary emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen institutional relationships and ensure seamless coordination between the Ministry and the Army.

He reiterated the Ministry’s determination to resolve administrative bottlenecks that may hinder operational effectiveness. Key among the priorities outlined were improving budgetary performance and execution, ensuring timely delivery of services, and maintaining a transparent and accountable procurement process in line with best practices.

The Permanent Secretary further highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to personnel welfare and human capital development across the Armed Forces. He noted that sustained investment in training, capacity building, and improved welfare packages remains critical to maintaining morale and operational readiness.

In addition, he referenced ongoing engagements with the (DICON), aimed at achieving more positive outcomes in local defence production and strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous military industrial capacity.


In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended the Ministry’s proactive approach and stressed the importance of sustained institutional support to meet evolving security demands. He highlighted the urgent need to expand the Aviation wing of the military to enable more rapid and effective response to security challenges nationwide.

The Army Chief also called for an increase in the number of armed drones to enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and precision operations. Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity for timely release of capital budgets to ensure uninterrupted execution of critical projects and procurement plans.


Addressing personnel welfare and infrastructure, Lieutenant General Shaibu underscored the need for adequate accommodation facilities for newly recruited personnel, as well as the recruitment of permanent teaching staff in defence schools to ensure continuity and quality education for military families.

The strategic engagement reflects a shared commitment between the Ministry of Defence and the Nigerian Army to strengthen operational capabilities, improve administrative efficiency, and enhance the overall effectiveness of Nigeria’s defence system.
