COURT GRANTS EX-AGF MALAMI & SON BAIL
ABUJA, NIGERIA – February 28, 2026
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, , SAN, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, in the sum of two hundred million naira each.
Trial Judge, , ordered that the defendants must provide two sureties each in like sum, with at least one surety owning a verifiable property in either Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja.
Malami and his son are being prosecuted by the (DSS) on a five-count charge bordering on alleged terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following their plea, defence counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, informed the court of a pending bail application, which was not opposed by the prosecution counsel. Consequently, Justice Abdulmalik granted bail to the defendants and adjourned the matter to March 4 for the commencement of trial.
Separate EFCC Case
Meanwhile, in a separate case involving the former AGF, his wife, and son, they are standing trial on a 16-count charge filed by the (EFCC).
The sixteen-count charge borders on alleged money laundering and illicit possession of assets valued at more than eight billion naira.
At the resumed hearing, defence counsel Joseph Daudu, SAN, urged the court to allow his clients to continue enjoying the bail earlier granted by of the same court.
However, the prosecution opposed the application, arguing that since the former AGF and the two others were re-arraigned and had taken fresh pleas of not guilty, the earlier proceedings before Justice Nwite were null and void.
After listening to arguments from both parties, Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to March 6 to hear the bail application and ordered that the defendants be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending the determination of their bail request.
