FG Deploys National Education Data Repository to End Certificate Fraud, Strengthen Academic Records Integrity

Abuja, Nigeria — Monday, March 9, 2026
The Federal Government of Nigeria has deployed a National Education Data Repository aimed at tackling certificate fraud and strengthening the integrity of academic records across the country’s education system.
The initiative, implemented through the Federal Ministry of Education (Nigeria), is designed to create a centralised digital platform that will store and verify academic records of students and graduates from Nigerian institutions.
Officials said the repository will enable government agencies, employers, and academic institutions to authenticate certificates quickly and efficiently, thereby reducing cases of forged qualifications and misrepresentation.
The platform is also expected to enhance transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s education sector by providing reliable and secure access to verified academic data.
According to the Ministry, the system will integrate records from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other accredited institutions nationwide. The move is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria to modernise data management in the education sector and align with global best practices in digital record keeping.
Education stakeholders say the National Education Data Repository will help protect the credibility of Nigerian academic qualifications while supporting policy planning, research, and education sector reforms.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system through technology-driven initiatives that promote efficiency, trust, and long-term institutional integrity.
