Access to CNG: President Bola Tinubu Directs PiCNG to Deploy About 100,000 Conversion Kits

State House, Abuja, Nigeria March 11, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to immediately deploy about 100,000 conversion kits nationwide to expand Nigerians’ access to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

The directive was issued when the President received the Chairman of PiCNG, Ismaeel Ahmed, during an audience at the State House in Abuja.

During the meeting, President Tinubu requested a progress update on the implementation of the initiative and also sought clarification on steps being taken by the agency to mitigate the possible economic impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, particularly the rising costs of petroleum products.

The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to promote cleaner, more affordable energy alternatives for transportation and to reduce dependence on conventional petrol.

According to the administration, the expansion of CNG usage remains a viable solution to help ease mobility challenges for Nigerians while also providing a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel option.

The planned deployment of the conversion kits is expected to accelerate the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles across the country and further support the government’s energy transition efforts.
