President Tinubu Directs Nationwide Deployment of 100,000 CNG Conversion Kits

Abuja, Nigeria – March 12, 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the nationwide deployment of 100,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to promote cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives for transportation.
The directive aims to accelerate the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles across Nigeria and reduce the country’s reliance on petrol, while also lowering transportation costs for citizens.
The initiative forms part of the administration’s broader energy transition strategy designed to provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel options for motorists. By facilitating the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to CNG, the government seeks to ease the financial burden on Nigerians and encourage the use of Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources.
The rollout of the 100,000 conversion kits will support vehicle owners willing to switch from traditional petrol engines to CNG systems, thereby expanding the country’s growing gas-powered mobility ecosystem.
Government officials say the programme will be implemented in phases across the country, with conversion centres and technical support expected to be made available to ensure safe and efficient installations.
The directive underscores the commitment of President Tinubu’s administration to sustainable energy development, improved transportation efficiency and economic relief for Nigerians.
The initiative is expected to boost Nigeria’s ongoing transition to cleaner energy while supporting national efforts to reduce fuel costs and improve energy security.
