NAHCON INAUGURATES CENTRAL SECURITY COMMITTEE FOR 2026 HAJJ OPERATIONS

Abuja, Nigeria — March 13, 2026

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has inaugurated a 17-member Central Security Committee to safeguard the 2026 Hajj operations, with a mandate to ensure the security, safety, and overall well-being of Nigerian pilgrims during both the onshore and offshore phases of the pilgrimage.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Chairman of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismaila Abba Yusuf, urged members of the committee to implement proactive and preventative strategies to ensure a smooth and secure exercise. He emphasized the need for robust monitoring of departure centres across the country to avoid loopholes that could undermine the integrity of the Hajj operations.

The chairman further advised members of the committee to remain vigilant and carry out their responsibilities with the highest sense of duty and professionalism. According to him, the committee must ensure that Nigerian pilgrims receive the best value and support before, during, and after the religious rites associated with the pilgrimage.

Head of the committee, Ambassador Lawal Rabiu, expressed appreciation to NAHCON for entrusting the team with the national assignment. He assured that members of the committee would work closely with relevant security and government agencies to gather intelligence, coordinate operations, and effectively address any security challenges that may arise during the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The establishment of the Central Security Committee is part of NAHCON’s broader effort to strengthen coordination, enhance safety measures, and ensure a hitch-free pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims participating in the 2026 Hajj.
