Workers’ Rights, Better Conditions Remain Priority, Says NUPENG’s New President
Lagos, Nigeria — April 27, 2026
Salimon Oladiti, the newly elected president of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and improving working conditions across the oil and gas sector.
Oladiti made this known over the weekend during the 6th quadrennial delegates conference of NUPENG held in Lagos. He emphasized that the welfare of union members would remain at the forefront of his administration’s agenda.
According to him, ensuring fair treatment, job security, and safer working environments for workers in the petroleum industry is non-negotiable. He noted that the union would continue to engage relevant stakeholders, including government agencies and industry operators, to address challenges affecting workers.
Oladiti, alongside 15 other officials, was elected unopposed as national officers of the union for a four-year tenure. The seamless election process, he said, reflects unity and shared purpose among members of the union.
He further assured members that the leadership would remain proactive in defending their interests, particularly in the face of evolving dynamics within the oil and gas sector.
The new president called on members to remain united and committed to the ideals of the union, stressing that collective effort is key to achieving lasting improvements in workers’ welfare.
