Reps Approves $516 Million Loan Request For Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway

Abuja, Nigeria — April 29, 2026

The House of Representatives has approved a $516 million loan request by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to finance critical sections of the proposed Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway.
The approval followed deliberations by lawmakers, who expressed support for the project as a strategic infrastructure investment aimed at boosting national connectivity and economic growth.

The Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is a flagship initiative under the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The project is designed to create a major transport corridor linking the North West to the South West, stretching from Illela in Sokoto State to Badagry in Lagos State.

Lawmakers noted that the highway, when completed, would significantly enhance the movement of goods and people across regions, reduce travel time, and open up economic opportunities along the route.
The project is also expected to improve trade logistics, stimulate agricultural and industrial activities, and strengthen regional integration by providing a high-capacity road network connecting multiple states.
Stakeholders have highlighted the importance of proper implementation, transparency, and timely execution to ensure the project delivers its intended benefits.

The Federal Government has maintained that the loan will be applied strictly to key segments of the highway, with a focus on delivering modern infrastructure capable of supporting Nigeria’s growing population and economy.
The Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is widely regarded as one of the most ambitious road infrastructure projects in the country in recent years, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s transport systems and drive inclusive development.
