IGP Disu Pays Operational Visit To Akwa Ibom, Presides Over Passing-Out Ceremony Of 1,068 Retrained Constables

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria — April 30, 2026

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has undertaken an operational visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he presided over the passing-out ceremony of 1,068 retrained police constables.

During the visit, the IGP paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, ahead of the ceremony held in Uyo. Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening institutional collaboration in support of ongoing policing reforms anchored on professionalism, accountability, and intelligence-led operations.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a modern, service-driven institution that prioritises public trust and operational efficiency.

In his remarks, Governor Eno commended the police for ongoing reforms aimed at improving professionalism, discipline, and service delivery, while assuring continued support from the state government in ensuring the safety of residents.

At the passing-out ceremony held at the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo, Disu charged the newly retrained officers to uphold professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

He emphasised that the retraining programme was designed to enhance operational competence, particularly in weapons handling and adherence to established rules of engagement, including Force Order 237.

The IGP reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on misuse of firearms and extrajudicial conduct, warning that any officer found culpable would face immediate dismissal and prosecution.

He also commended the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Mohammed Azare, for the successful execution of the retraining programme, highlighting the inclusion and performance of female officers as commendable.

The police chief further acknowledged recent operational successes in the state, including the rescue of kidnapped victims along the Calabar–Oron waterways, attributing such achievements to effective intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration.

The visit underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s continued efforts to strengthen capacity, enhance professionalism, and effectively respond to evolving security challenges across the country.
