President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day 2026, commending their resilience, hard work, and patriotism in the face of economic challenges.

In his May Day message, Akpabio described workers as the true heroes of Nigeria’s democracy and the driving force of the nation’s economy.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly of Nigeria, particularly the 10th Assembly, to improving workers’ welfare through initiatives such as a living wage, safer working conditions, pension reforms, and job creation.

The Senate President highlighted the passage of the National Minimum Wage Act and ongoing welfare-focused policies as clear demonstrations of the legislature’s dedication to enhancing the well-being of Nigerian workers.

Akpabio also called on both public and private sector employers to prioritise the welfare of their workforce, noting that a motivated and well-supported labour force is essential for national productivity and economic growth.

He further pledged that the Senate would continue to collaborate with labour unions and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the voices of workers are adequately represented in policymaking.

The Senate President assured Nigerian workers that the legislature would not relent in its efforts until every worker can look to the future with hope, dignity, and confidence.
