Abuja, Nigeria — April 30, 2026
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has formally presented Mustafa Gubio as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
The presentation was made on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Zulum described Gubio’s emergence as the outcome of extensive consultations among party stakeholders across Borno State, reflecting unity and a shared direction within the APC in the state.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and support, noting that the President played a significant role in fostering cohesion within the party.
“The President has been instrumental in the emergence of Gubio as the consensus candidate,” Zulum stated, while expressing appreciation for what he described as unprecedented support to both Borno State and the APC.
Several top political figures were present at the event, including former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff (represented by Maina Ma’aji Lawan), Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, and APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori.
Also in attendance were Senators Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Mohammed Ali Ndume, and Kaka Shehu Lawan, as well as the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, and other party stakeholders.
The development signals early political alignment within the APC in Borno State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
