Obi, Kwankwaso Defect To Nigeria Democratic Congress

Abuja, Nigeria — April 30, 2026

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party Nigeria in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The two political figures announced their defection following a closed-door meeting with the national leader of the party, Seriake Dickson, held at his residence in Abuja.

Their move to the NDC comes just months after both politicians reportedly joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from their respective parties.

The development signals ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures continue to reposition across party lines.
