Pantami rejects Gombe APC consensus arrangement, cites lack of inclusivity

Gombe, Nigeria — May 4, 2026

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has rejected the consensus arrangement adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for elective positions in Gombe State.

Pantami, who is a governorship aspirant, described the arrangement as a “coronation” that lacks inclusivity and violates established legal and democratic principles.

His position was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by Suleiman Mohammed on behalf of his supporters and members of the Pantamiyya Movement.

The former minister argued that the consensus process failed to accommodate broader participation of party stakeholders and did not reflect democratic best practices.

He maintained that any arrangement that sidelines aspirants and party members undermines internal democracy and could weaken the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Pantami’s stance comes amid ongoing political consultations and alignments within the APC in Gombe State as preparations for the elections intensify.
